Mother's Day

Mother’s Day celebrates mums all over the word and honours motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. Our founder, Andrea sat down with Zena, friend and Creative Director of House of K’Dor to discuss motherhood, friendship and how they juggle it all while running a business.

“A genuine friendship quickly developed over that shared love of business, family and creativity”

How do you and Zena Know each other?

A: Over 3 years ago I received an email from Zena suggesting a collaboration that took me completely by surprise. It was so warm and heartfelt and soon after she invited me to her beautiful store treating me to coffee and delicious cakes and the rest is history.

Describe your friendship.

A: Zena is the most dynamic tiny powerhouse I've ever met; if I am ever doubtful about anything I go and see her. She is not afraid to dream big which is what I love about her. She has an infectious zest for life which she loves sharing with everyone - nothing like a House of K'dor party or event. Such a generous kind spirit! And did I say FUN! And glamorous!

Z: Initially we met due to a local business collaboration between Tutu Du Monde and House Of K’dor  welcoming Andrea to our home I was instantly drawn to her energy, creativity, positive work ethic and all-round good nature. We clicked, not in part due to my daughter’s ongoing obsession with Andrea’s gorgeous tutus! A genuine friendship quickly developed over that shared love of business, family and creativity. Andrea inspires me in who she is as a person every day and I treasure having her input and her warmth in my life and always excited to create magic with Andrea.

How do you balance work life while being a busy mum?

Z: Our fine jewellery business is based around family - and we involve the kids wherever they can. They’re regulars in our boutique and  even some business trips, such as one of our global launch in Abu Dhabi last year.

Sometimes it’s certainly a juggling act, as we are a working family, however my husband and I are thankfully a real team, and one of us is always with our kids. We also really treasure our Sundays, where the five of us bake, go for walks and bike rides and watch movies.

But ultimately, there is no separation between ‘work and home’ life  We value time spent together in our boutique after school, they’re instrumental in some of our designs when we’re brainstorming at home around the kitchen table and are so intrigued by mother natures natural creations! I see our business as simply a foundation and platform for our kids to take over and continue the legacy instilling good values, love and passion in contributing to the happiness of others.. They’re potentially the next generation of House Of K’dor and we are continuously inspired by our children, through their dreams and imagination.
